It was national Anti-Bullying Week from 11th-15th November and Bluecoat took park in a variety of ways with a focus on the theme #ChooseKindness. Children took part in Positive Touch sessions making anti-bullying spirals, they learned what it means to be a Befriender rather than a Bystander, they designed posters for the #ChooseKindness campaign and they also had an odd sock day to raise money for PSHE resources in the school.
In Class RM they made kindness bags for their class Mascot, Pete the Cat. The children wrote messages on the bags to teach Pete how to show kindness to others. Here are some of the ideas:
- Hold hands
- When people are crying, try and make them feel better
- If someone’s hurt, help them and tell a grown up
- Help people
- Give them a hug
- Share a toy, share a book
- Ask people if they’re alright
- Ask them to play with you
- Share a snack
- Tell a joke or do something funny to cheer them up
In Class 4JD, the children made houses for their class mascots as they thought it was a kind thing to do. Here's what they had to say:
Alisha: "We showed kindness to our dragons by making them a home. We showed kindness to each other when working well as a team."
Grace: "I enjoyed making this because we all worked well as a team and didn't argue."
Tyler: "I liked it because we worked together but my wardrobe kept breaking!"
Bella: "We worked all together. We listened to each others ideas and planned out who was doing what."
Morgin: "We shared our plans. We communicated and had to work well as a team."
Freddie: "We made each their own bedroom, a hangout room and an outdoor play area."
Imogen: "We were making houses for our class mascots. We thought it would be kind to make them a home."
Adele: "We used cardboard boxes which we decorated with lots of materials like paper, fabric and cotton wool."
