The Reception children have really enjoyed learning about harvest time and how food makes it to the plate from the seeds in the field. The children spoke with a visiting Farm Worker about the busy time of harvest of the farm and why this is such an important time.
Reception had the opportunity to explore a tractor first hand as well as experience a visit to a local greengrocers to see a delivery happening and how the produce was sorted and sold.
Many thanks to Patt’s in the town for making everyone feel so welcome.
At school the children tried printing with tyres just like the ones we had seen on the trailer and also grinding wheat. They also really enjoyed trying their hand at some temporary art work in the style of Arcimboldo using fruit and vegetables. They built a Sukkah after learning about the celebration of Sukkot and enjoyed eating their snack inside!
The learning was shared with the children's families at the Harvest Celebration and not only did the children sing songs they had learnt like ‘Big Red Combine Harvester’, but they were able to retell the entire story of ‘The Little Red Hen’ from memory.
