On 6th November, Year 4 travelled to Exeter and visited the Royal Albert Memorial Museum. This was as a culmination on their learning about the Romans in Britain as part of their topic, “What makes Britain so great?”
They took part in a range of Roman workshops, including Home life, Tunics, Togas and Uniforms, Roman and Ancient Britain, Be a Roman Mosaicist/Scribe and Visit the Roman Wall.
They had a fun packed day, and it really helped to bring their learning to life!
What the children had to say...
Jasmine: “I enjoyed writing on the wax boards.”
Eleanor: “I enjoyed looking around the place on my own.”
Quinlan: “I learned that the Romans crushed grain and wheat to make bread.”
Dylan: “I liked trying on the clothes and armour.”
Ruby: “I enjoyed looking at the dresses from a long time ago.”
Aiden: “I liked making the mosaics.”
Alex: “I enjoyed blowing into the battle horn.”
Connor H: “I learnt that Romans ate dormice and when they went to battle they used a battle horn that they would blow to say when to charge.”
Connor S: “I enjoyed our visit to RAMM because I learnt that romans used unusual objects for everyday life – like a sponge on a stick!”
George A: “I learned that they ate dormice and fish.”
Jacob: “The Romans brought their favourite food, fish, from all over the world.”
Morgin: “I learned that the some of the Romans Gods gave us names for our planets, for example, Mars.”
Poppy: “I enjoyed our visit to RAMM because I learned new things such as they liked fashion and wore togas, tunics and rings.”
