Year 5 Thor'sday Thursday

On 1st December, Year 5 held their annual Thor’sday Thursday. Children came to school dressed as Vikings, and took part in lots of different activities to celebrate what they have learned so far and to deepen their understanding even further about what life was like in Viking Britain. They had a video call with an archaeologist from the Jorvick Centre, who showed them some fascinating Viking artefacts found in the Coppergate dig, including the world’s largest Viking poo! They also took part in a treasure hunt to find clues written in Runes and to make a link with some local Viking history, and they played a game to help them find out about how the Vikings kept law and order.

What the children had to say:

Carys: "I liked doing the quest where we worked out the runes."
Bailey-Mai: "My favourite part was the crime and punishment game."
Harper: "I also liked the quest."
Ralfe: "The quest was really good. I enjoyed the game."
Cai: "I have learnt about how the Vikings used runes."
Cory: "I have learnt that poo is very expensive!"
Alfie: "My favourite part was the call with the Jorvick Centre, where he showed us the best Anglo-Saxon helmet."
Archie: "I found it interesting seeing the bones of a cow and a pig’s finger! It was used to make a fidget spinner - the Vikings called it a 'buzz bone'.”

Thank you very much to everyone at home who helped to provide the costumes, we had a fantastic day!
