Year 6 have been learning about Britain at war, thinking about the challenges that civilians might have faced in their every day lives. They found out about the Make Do and Mend campaign, found out how to do a running stitch, a whip stitch and a blanket stitch and then tried to repair some of our clothes from home in an attempt to be a little more environmentally friendly!
Naomi: I used a whip stitch to fix my brother's sock (one with a tiny hole and one with a massive one!) My favourite stitch was the blanket stitch because it's more intricate and you have to be quite precise. I'm looking forward to making our decorations now!
Theo: I was able to mend one of my socks so I can wear it again without getting cold feet. It's better for the environment because it doesn't get thrown away.
Tom: I fixed a sock in class but then I went home and fixed my sister's shorts by sewing them up at home. She said thanks but I think she was a bit surprised. My brother actually has a hole in his trousers too so I'm going to try and fix that too!
