As part of their ‘People who help us’ topic, the children in Reception enjoyed various visits from people in the community that help others.
Kim, an oral hygienist from the dentist surgery visited to talk all about brushing teeth, and explaining that we have to:
- Brush our teeth twice a day for two minutes.
- Brush near your gum first.
- Start in a different place each time.
- Close your mouth when brushing the back teeth.
- Spit out, but don't rinse.
She also told the children about food that is good or bad for their teeth.
The children also had a visit from Liz, who came to talk about the RNLI. They learned how to keep safe near water and what to do if there is an emergency. They learned four special rules and what the different flags mean.
- Stop and think
- Stay together
- Float like a starfish
- Call 999
Thanks also to Darren Parish, a real life firefighter, who visited the children to talk about the main jobs of firefighters. The children were able to ask lots of interesting questions regarding this helpful job. Darren managed to show children lots of important equipment and let them have a proper look and try his uniform on.
Finally, Reception had a visit from a local police officer who talked about road safety, what to do when we get lost, safe driving and littering. She made a real impact on the children and showed them her uniform and her equipment such as the walkie-talkie and even her police car! The children were allowed to sit in it and were able to hear the siren and see the flashing lights.
