Martin Luther King Day

Celebrated on the third Monday in January, Martin Luther King Day is a US national holiday that honours the United States’ most famous civil-rights activist. This year marked the 25th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates his life and legacy. MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

In class 2P, the children watched a short video at the end of the day on 20th January to celebrate Martin Luther King Day and discussed why it is important to remember him.  Miss Pearce asked the children to think about what they could thank God for and asked if anyone would like to do a prayer thinking about Martin Luther King.

Megan S shared a beautiful poem that she came up with on the spot. Miss Pearce was so pleased she asked Megan to write it out so it could be shared.

Dear God

We thank you for making Martin Luther King. We thank you for helping us to remember that brown, black and white people should be treated the same, Even is we have different eyes, colour hair or skin, we should not be treated differently. Thank you for helping us to treat people fairly.

In Jesus' name

Amen
