Shipmates, Ahoy! It's Pirate Day!

This year’s Year 2 Pirate and Explorer Day was a huge success and enjoyed by all pupils (and staff!)

After discovering a message in a bottle, a treasure hunt took the old seadogs around the school grounds looking for - and solving - clues. Everyone learnt to speak like a pirate and even came up with pirate and explorer names for the day! What would your pirate name be?!

Everyone made a golden doubloon; learnt how to give a grid reference on a treasure map; enjoyed making telescopes and invented their very own explorer equipment. The hardest challenge was to make a junk model boat that would sail in the water tray, but of course the budding buccaneers were successful! As well as all of this, the shipmates also enjoyed a pirate and explorer role play.

Next up is learning more about pirates before finding out about the life of Devon explorer, John Davis, and deciding whether the world should know more about this man... Watch this space!
