Lest We Forget: Bluecoat Remembers

Across the school, children took part in various remembrance activities to honour those that gave their lives in war.

Chapter 2 Remembrance Assembly

At 11.00am on 11th November, Chapter 2 observed a minute’s silence together with 1st and 2nd Officers Wingrove, two of our Bluecoat parents. We sang our Remembrance Day song, and laid wreaths by the cross. Bluecoat Group had also created a very beautiful poppy banner which provided a backdrop to the cross. Thank you to all those who participated in our short service, those who read, prayed and Mrs Eggleton who spoke to us about Remembrance Day.

Class RZ paid their respects to the fallen by making a handprint wreath to put their poppies on. They also spent time thinking about the soldiers who fought for us in the wars by trying on the old tin helmet to see how heavy it felt.

Remembrance Sunday Service

On Sunday 14th November 2021, representatives from Bluecoat's Pupil Council attended the Remembrance Parade and service at the War Memorial in Great Torrington.

Every year group was proudly represented, with Effie from Year 6 and Freddie from Year 5 stepping forward during the service to lay the poppy wreath and pay their respects to the town's fallen heroes at the memorial cross.

Hymns were beautifully sung and all joined in to accurately recite the Lord's Prayer, before a final rendition of God Save the Queen full of pomp, pride and plenty of circumstance! Well done each and everyone of you; you certainly did us proud.
