Year 3 Greek Day

On Monday 14th February, pupils in Year 3 experienced a Greek Day. They took part in a number of different fun activities inspired by the work they had done on the Ancient Greeks. Pupils came to school dressed as a character from Ancient Greece and they looked fantastic - the effort  that has been put into their costumes was plain to see. Not to be left out, Mrs Pluckrose arrived as a Greek goddess and Nicola arrived as Medusa - frightening stuff!

The first activity was based on the Greek alphabet. Pupils were able to use a copy of the Greek alphabet to write their full name using black fineliner pen. They enjoyed the challenge of finding the right upper or lowercase letters and copying them onto their strip of paper. The children worked really hard at making their writing perfect and adding borders with Greek patterns. The finished products looked great.

The next activity the pupils took part in was wreath making. The children had to measure their heads with a strip of green card and cut and stick different types of leaves onto it. The children loved their homemade wreaths. Whilst some children were finishing these activities, others were able to watch a traditional Greek dance, called The Zorba, and listened to some traditional Greek music.

The final activity was the Greek lunch or ‘Ariston’. This is where children got to try some traditional Greek foods and then evaluate the foods according to appearance, smell, texture and taste.  As you can imagine, some of these foods were more enjoyable than others!

Overall, Greek Day was a huge success. Everyone enjoyed their day and all the different activities they were able to take part in. All the work produced was done to a really high standard and shows just how much the children knew about Ancient Greece and how much they enjoyed their topic this term. No doubt we we will all be talking about this day for a very long time!
